Half Day Limassol Excursion
12th July 2015
€ 28.00
Limassol is the second largest city of the island, with stretches of sandy beaches, beautiful traditional and modern buildings as well as world-class hotels.
Our first stop is the Amathus Archaeological Site. Located 11km east of Limassol center, it is considered one of the most important ancient and historical sites of Cyprus. It is also known as Ancient Amathunta and dates back to 1100 BC. The visitors can enjoy their guided walk around the ancient site by viewing rare and beautiful archaeological treasures which were buried for centuries.
We will then visit the Castle of Kolossi, a former Crusader stronghold on the south-west edge of Kolossi village. The surrounding land around Kolossi castle played an important role in the past as it had been highly cultivated with sugarcane and vineyards, from which the famous and oldest named wine in the world, Commandaria, was produced. The name ‘Commandaria’ originates from the headquarters of Kolossi – the ‘Grand Commanderie’.
We will continue our trip by visiting the core of the city, with its narrow streets radiating out from the old fishing harbor, where old shuttered houses and modern boutiques both squeeze themselves into the fray. It’s an area buzzing with cafes, bars and restaurants that are as popular with locals as they are with visitors. Next, we will visit the new Limassol marina, a long-planned construction project next to the old harbor, which has brought new life and pizzazz to the area.
Our last stop will be the Limassol castle, next to the Carob Mills complex. The exact date of the fort’s construction is not known, but according to tradition, this is where Richard the Lionheart married Berengaria of Navarre and crowned her Queen of England in 1191. The castle currently houses the Medieval museum of Cyprus.
Full Day Nicosia Excursion
16th July 2015
€ 50.00
Nicosia is the capital of Cyprus and a must for every visitor on the island. Our tour will first lead us to the Cyprus Archaeological Museum where a huge collection of important archaeological findings are housed and through which the long cultural and historical heritage of the island is revealed. Driving along the UN Buffer Zone and the old city of Nicosia, we will see one most unfortunate distinction; the fact that this is Europe’s only militarily divided city since 1974.
We will continue our visit to the old city within the Venetian Walls. Afterwards, Archbishopric, St. John’s Cathedral and the Liberty Statue which are situated in the heart of old Nicosia. ‘Laiki Yitonia’ is a beautifully restored 18th century neighborhood within the Walls which has kept the traditional style of the old times’ market, restaurants and narrow paved streets with local merchants and craftsmen displaying their hand-made products.
Walking through the legendary as well as contemporary shops of Ledras and Onasagorou streets, we will reach ‘Levention’ Municipal Museum. It is the only historical museum of Nicosia reviving the old ways of Cypriot life from ancient to present times.
The excursion will finish with a sumptuous lunch with local wine and drinks at a traditional tavern. Before the end of our excursion, we will spare some time for a stroll and some shopping in the souvenir shops which feature excellent samples of Cypriot history and culture.
