As AI becomes part of everyday educational practice, how can we design technology-rich environments that keep learners thinking, making, and creating together, rather than merely consuming?

Drawing on more than a decade of design-based research in real classrooms, from educational robotics to STEAM-through-Making, this keynote shows what a design-for-learning stance offers as AI moves from novelty to everyday practice. It looks at how design choices shape learners’ opportunities to explore ideas, build meaningful artefacts, and construct understanding collaboratively, and what this means for positioning learners as active creators and critical thinkers alongside AI.

The talk argues that meaningful change comes not from the next innovative tool or technology, but from sustained, incremental, evidence-informed design that humanizes learning and protects the creative, social, and reflective processes through which learning happens.

[/et_pb_team_member][et_pb_toggle title=”Short Bio” open_toggle_text_color=”gcid-c0d903dc-93ac-4ecc-8236-73ef6305c15d” icon_color=”gcid-secondary-color” toggle_icon=”||fa||900″ open_icon_color=”gcid-secondary-color” open_toggle_icon=”||fa||900″ _builder_version=”4.26.1″ _module_preset=”default” title_text_color=”gcid-c0d903dc-93ac-4ecc-8236-73ef6305c15d” background_color=”gcid-primary-color” width=”100%” max_width=”73%” custom_margin=”||||false|false” custom_padding=”||||false|false” border_radii=”on|20px|20px|20px|20px” border_width_all=”0px” box_shadow_style=”preset3″ global_colors_info=”{%22gcid-primary-color%22:%91%22background_color%22%93,%22gcid-secondary-color%22:%91%22icon_color%22,%22open_icon_color%22%93,%22gcid-c0d903dc-93ac-4ecc-8236-73ef6305c15d%22:%91%22open_toggle_text_color%22,%22title_text_color%22%93}”]

Dr. Andri Ioannou is Professor of Learning Design and Technology in the Department of Multimedia and Graphic Arts at the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT).
