His work focuses on the ocean carbon cycle and the evaluation of carbon dioxide removal approaches, with particular emphasis on their effective climate impact.<\/p>\n
His research involves the development of modelling and analytical frameworks to quantify carbon storage, assess lifecycle emissions, and evaluate the overall effectiveness and scalability of emerging climate solutions. In this context, he conducts techno-economic and lifecycle assessments of ocean-based carbon dioxide removal, underscoring the importance of robust carbon accounting and comprehensive, system-wide analyses encompassing both land-based and maritime components.<\/p>\n
Dr. Poupon\u2019s work is further concerned with the role of scientific evidence in informing credible decarbonisation pathways, strengthening monitoring, reporting and verification frameworks, and supporting decision-making under conditions of uncertainty. He holds a PhD in Climate Science from Princeton University, along with a doctoral certificate in Science, Technology and Environmental Policy. Dr. Poupon also serves as France Coordinator of the Early Career Ocean Professionals (ECOP) Network, an initiative endorsed by the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.<\/p>\n
