We describe the submission criteria and reviewing procedures below. Please read this information carefully and adhere to the requirements to ensure smooth operation of the submission, review, and decision notification processes.<\/p>\n<p>The submission portal will open on <strong>October 1<\/strong><strong>st <\/strong><strong>2023<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The deadline for submissions is <strong>November <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">15<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\"><strong>th<\/strong><\/span><strong> 30th <\/strong><strong>2023 <\/strong>(11.59pm EST).<\/p>\n<p>We will accept submissions for posters, oral paper presentations, and symposia. <strong><u>All submissions should be clearly related to empirical or theoretical issues<\/u> <u>pertinent to psychopathy<\/u><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Decision notifications will be sent by January 15th 2024.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<h1><span>Submission Guidelines<\/span><span><\/span><\/h1>\n<h3><span><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span>Eligibility<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span>SSSP Full, Associate, Student, and Affiliate Members are eligible to present at the conference. Non-members can only present if the presentation is co-authored by a Full or Associate member. <strong><u>All attendees and presenters are required to register for the conference.<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span>Types of Presentations<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span> <\/span><span>Symposium submissions are submitted by a moderator\/discussant and include 3 to 4 related paper <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span> <\/span><span>Single paper submissions are submitted by authors of one empirical or theoretical paper. The program committee will group single paper submissions into Depending on the number of submissions, authors may be asked to present in a poster session.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span> <\/span><span>Poster submissions are submitted by authors of one empirical or theoretical paper<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><span>SSSP traditionally accepts only one first-authored paper per person, unless the second paper is invited. <\/span><\/em><strong><u><span>Submission of a proposal implies a commitment to attend the conference in-person<\/span><\/u><span> <u>to deliver the presentation or poster if accepted.<\/u><\/span><\/strong><strong><span><u><\/u><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><span><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span>Required Materials for All Submissions<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><em><u><span>For all submission types:<\/span><\/u><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span> <\/span><span>Title of submission<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span> <\/span><span>Name of each author and institution\/organization<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span> <\/span><span>Email address for each author<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><u><span>For symposia submissions:<\/span><\/u><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span> <\/span><span>The moderator\/discussant should provide an abstract of up to 150 words that summarizes the symposium and their planned discussion points<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span> <\/span><span>Each presenter should also provide an abstract of up to 250 words that describes the significance of the problem being addressed, study innovations, study methods, a summary of the main study results, and any implications of the findings<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><u><span>For single paper submissions:<\/span><\/u><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span> <\/span><span>The presenter should provide an abstract of up to 250 words that describes the significance of the problem being addressed, study innovations, study methods, a summary of the main study results, and any implications of the findings<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><u><span>For poster submissions<\/span><\/u><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span> <\/span><span>The presenter should provide an abstract of up to 250 words that describes the significance of the problem being addressed, study innovations, study methods, a summary of the main study results, and any implications of the findings<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1><span><\/span><\/h1>\n<h1><span>Reviewing Criteria<\/span><\/h1>\n<p><span>Priorities for the 2024 program are methodologically rigorous studies that adopt a lifespan perspective and\/or applied focus.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><u><span>Substantive focus:<\/span><\/u><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span> <\/span><span>Symposia or papers that apply theoretical or empirical insights to practice (e.g., treatment of psychopathy, court assessments, police interrogation\/ investigation, )<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span> <\/span><span>Symposia or papers that include a broad range of ages and\/or address lifespan trajectories of CU traits\/psychopathy<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span> <\/span><span>Symposia or papers that include rigorous multi-method approaches (e.g., psychometric, treatment\/prevention, biological, developmental, experimental) or address a range of theoretical perspectives<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span> <\/span><span>Symposia or papers that include different sample types (e.g., forensic, community, high risk, child, adult)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><u><span>Evaluation Criteria for Submissions:<\/span><\/u><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span> <\/span><span>Does the research significantly advance our understanding of psychopathy or CU traits?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span> <\/span><span>Are the methods rigorous? (e.g., valid, pre-registered, multi-method, replicable, transparent)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span> <\/span><span>Does the topic of study fit with our core areas of substantive focus?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span>Scores generated based on the above criteria will be used to rank the best submissions. Then, from within the best submissions, we will balance the different types of research and perspectives to provide a diverse and broad conference program. <strong><u>Note that submissions that include<\/u> <u>results (i.e., preliminary or final) will be prioritized.<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><strong><u><\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><u><span>Blitz Talks<\/span><\/u><\/h3>\n<p><span>In addition to the submission types listed above, postdocs and students may be invited to present \u201cBlitz talk\u201d papers. \u201cBlitz talks\u201d will involve timed 3-minute presentations. Each period will be timed allowing for more presentations within a typical presentation talk. The program committee will select 10 meritorious submissions from paper or symposia categories that were not selected for traditional presentations and\/or from the poster category submissions. Thus, there is no need to submit for this type of talk, but if you submit any type of presentation, you will be able to indicate whether you are interested in being considered for this format. All presenters of the Blitz talks will be requested to prepare a poster to supplement their 3-minute presentation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><u><span>Cheryl Wynne Hare Memorial Award<\/span><\/u><\/h3>\n<p><span>The Cheryl Wynne Hare Memorial Award will be awarded to the student (Master&#8217;s, PhD, graduate) who presents the best poster at the conference. Students who wish to be considered for this award must indicate that when submitting their abstract. Requirements for applying for the Cheryl Wynne Hare Memorial Award include that the student must be the first author of the submission and only completed studies can be submitted for this award. Posters being considered for the Cheryl Wynne Hare Memorial Award are presented on the first day of the conference. Students <\/span><span>submitting for this award must attend this poster session and be available to discuss their work with the Award Committee and other members. In evaluating the submission, the Award Committee will consider both the poster and discussion with the applicant.
