The 32nd European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS) took place in Cyprus from June 13-19, 2024. The conference theme, “People First: Constructing Digital Futures Together,” underscored the imperative that technological progress should be intrinsically linked to the betterment of human lives and inclusivity through cooperative efforts.

The European Conference on Information Systems is the main conference of the Association of Information Systems in Region 2, encompassing Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. The conference attracted over 860 information systems researchers and scholarly practitioners from 42 countries and was chaired by Michel Avital (Copenhagen Business School, Denmark), Elena Karahanna (University of Georgia, USA), and Marinos Themistocleous (University of Nicosia, Cyprus). The conference was held at the Coral Beach Resort in Paphos.

The conference program featured 344 paper presentations in 25 topical tracks as well as panels, debates and provocations, and industry forum tracks. Pre-conference events included the Doctoral Consortium, TREO Forum, Junior Faculty Consortium, Mid-Career Faculty Workshop, and 19 professional development workshops on various established and emerging topics of interest. ECIS 2024 was the first conference to issue NFT-based awards and recognition certificates.

Keynote speakers included Mr. Yoni Assia, CEO and Co-founder of the trading and investing platform eToro, who presented “DeFi, Digitalization, and the Future of Money,” and Dr. Haridimos Tsoukas, Professor at the University of Cyprus and Warwick Business School, who discussed “Eudaimonia, Virtue, and Phronesis in Organizational Life: Insights from Aristotle.”

Social events highlights included the opening reception with a stunning sunset overlooking the Coral Beach Bay and a conference gala comprising a traditional Cypriot dinner next to the Paphos castle at the harbor. Participants also had the opportunity to visit the Tombs of the Kings, an impressive UNESCO World Heritage site featuring an ancient necropolis with rock-cut tombs dating back to the 4th century BC.

ECIS 2024 adopted inclusivity and sustainable practice. The registration fee was prorated based on the United Nations Human Development Index (HDI) of the country where the participant works and lives. The conference offered reusable water bottles to interested participants and a rich menu of plant-based food. Furthermore, ECIS 2024 offered participants the option of having trees planted on their behalf, creating the ‘People First Park’ in Paphos featuring olive, pine, cypress, and murus trees complete with an irrigation system.

We also thank our other sponsors: eToro, University of Nicosia, Copenhagen Business School, Terry College of Business, Pamplin College of Business, CT Bauer College of Business, Springer, Association for Information Systems, J. Mack Robinson College of Business, NETInfo, and KNIME.
