The Annual ACM Conference on Intelligent User Interfaces (ACM IUI 2026) successfully took place in Limassol, Cyprus, from July 13 to 16, 2026, bringing together 330 academics, researchers, students, and practitioners from 33 countries, including China, Switzerland, and Israel. Hosted by the Department of Computer Science at the University of Cyprus under the auspices of ACM, the conference once again demonstrated its role as one of the leading international forums at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence and Human-Computer Interaction.

The event was held in a hybrid format and was hosted at the St Raphael Resort and Marina, a luxury marina resort offering modern conference facilities on the Mediterranean coast.

The two Conference General Chairs reflected on the success of ACM IUI 2026 and the importance of bringing together the international Intelligent User Interfaces community. Professor Tsvi Kuflik highlighted the conference’s role in advancing the field, stating, “ACM IUI continues to bring together outstanding researchers and practitioners who advance the relationship between Artificial Intelligence and Human-Computer Interaction.” Prof. Styliani Kleanthous expressed her sincere appreciation to everyone who contributed to the event’s success, thanking every participant, author, volunteer, sponsor, and supporter for making this edition of the conference possible.

 

 

 

Programme

The scientific programme, led by Program Chairs Li Chen, Giulio Jacucci, and Alison Renner, showcased the latest advances in Intelligent User Interfaces through a comprehensive programme of 113 paper presentations, 8 workshops, 4 tutorials, and 2 keynote lectures. Research was presented across the conference tracks Human-centered AI Methods, Approaches, and Systems, Computational Innovation, Innovative User Interfaces, Intelligent Multimodal Systems, Intelligent Applications, Large Language Models and Agentic AI, and Evaluations of Intelligent User Interfaces, reflecting the breadth of current research in the field.

Alongside the main technical programme, participants attended eight workshops and four tutorials curated by Karthik Dinakar, Werner Geyer, Patricia Kahr, and Antonela Tommasel, exploring emerging research directions and practical challenges in Intelligent User Interfaces. Highlights included the Workshop on Agentic AI Systems Development, the 1st Workshop on the Challenges for Human Oversight of AI Systems, Communicating Uncertainty to Foster Realistic Expectations via Human-Centered Design, the Workshop on Intelligent and Interactive Health User Interfaces,  tutorial on reflecting on bias in Large Language Models through human-centered perspectives, and DASH: Designing and Developing Agentic Systems for Humans. In total, 245 participants attended at least one workshop or tutorial.

Two internationally recognised keynote speakers shared their latest research with conference participants. Professor Antonio Krüger from Saarland University presented The Role of HCI in Trusted AI, examining how human-computer interaction contributes to the development of trustworthy artificial intelligence. Professor Pattie Maes from the MIT Media Lab delivered the keynote Designing AI Interaction for Human Flourishing.

During the ceremony, Pearl Pu Faltings and Li Chen received the IUI Most Impactful Paper Award for Trust Building with Explanation Interfaces, recognising the lasting influence of their research on the Intelligent User Interfaces community. Rifat Mehreen Amin received the IUI Most Valuable Participant Award in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the conference.

Beyond the scientific programme, ACM IUI 2026 offered several opportunities for participants to reconnect with colleagues and build new professional relationships. The Welcome Reception took place in the gardens of the conference venue, where attendees enjoyed canapés and local drinks while overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. The warm July weather, long summer evenings, and the coastal atmosphere of Limassol created an ideal setting for informal conversations following the first day of the conference. Many participants also explored the nearby Amathus Ruins, located only a few kilometres from the venue. As one of the oldest royal cities of ancient Cyprus, the archaeological site offered visitors the opportunity to experience the island’s rich cultural heritage alongside the conference programme. The Conference Dinner was held at a traditional tavern in Armenochori, a village overlooking Limassol. Participants enjoyed authentic Cypriot cuisine, local drinks, live traditional music, panoramic views of the city, and an evening that concluded with dancing, creating memorable moments.
