NicosiaAbout
A visit to Nicosia offers conference participants a unique chance to experience the last divided capital in Europe. The city combines ancient history with modern life, where Venetian walls, historic churches, and traditional neighbourhoods sit alongside busy streets and cultural centres. A guided excursion helps visitors understand Cyprus’s complex history and political reality, while seeing key landmarks in both the old town and the surrounding areas. It’s an informative and eye-opening visit that gives real context to the island beyond its coastal cities.
ProgrammeExcursion
Driving along the UN Buffer Zone and the old city of Nicosia, we will encounter a most unfortunate aspect: the fact that this is Europe’s only militarily divided city since 1974.
We will first visit the Nicosia old town, where we will have the chance to visit the barrier (also known as the Green Line) that divides the Cypriot capital of Nicosia into the southern Greek Cypriot region and the northern Turkish Cypriot region since the Turkish invasion in 1974. We will continue by visiting ‘Laiki Yitonia’, which is a beautifully restored 18th century neighborhood within the Walls, which has kept the traditional style of the old market, restaurants, and narrow paved streets with local merchants and craftsmen displaying their hand-made products.
We will then walk to the Levention Municipal Museum, which is located nearby. It is the only historical museum in Nicosia reviving the old ways of Cypriot life from ancient to present times.
At the end of the tour, we will allocate some time for a stroll and shopping.
Participation fee is inclusive of:
Transfers in luxurious fully air-conditioned coaches, officially CDMT licensed tour guide, entrance fees to all sites, program as described above, V.A.T. currently 19% and taxes and organization and assistance by EasyConferences.
