Abstract
The wider adoption of wireless medical video communication mHealth systems in standard clinical practice re-lies on the development of effective methods that can match the quality of in-hospital examinations. Integration of current and emerging wireless networks and compression technologies, respectively, are expected to facilitate video communica-tions with the low-delay and quality requirements for emergency telemedicine, while developing the appropriate mecha-nisms that will guarantee the clinical quality of the communicated video. The special session will cover recent advances in associate disciplines of video compression (HEVC), wireless networks (towards 5G), medical QoS and QoE, and clinical video quality assessment. Moreover, it will address significant security and privacy challenges that stem from wireless transmis-sion of sensitive clinical data, with a particular emphasis on established standards, such as DICOM. The special session will also cover recent trends in video analytics for healthcare applications, and discuss how the use of telerobotics can facilitate remote diagnosis and care in an mHealth setting.
