Call for Full Papers – Mediterranean Botany Special Issue

Following the successful completion of the 5th Mediterranean Plant Conservation Week (5MPCW 2025), held in April 2025 in Limassol, Cyprus, we are pleased to announce a Special Issue of the journal Mediterranean Botany entitled:

“Building alliances for plant conservation in the Mediterranean”

This Special Issue is published in association with 5MPCW and aims to highlight new research, innovative approaches, and practical experiences related to plant and habitat conservation across the Mediterranean region.

Who can submit?

Contributions from 5MPCW presenters and participants are especially encouraged. Submissions are also welcome from other researchers working on relevant topics within the scope of the Special Issue.

 Topics include (but are not limited to):

  • Climatic crisis and plant diversity
  • In situ, ex situ and integrated plant diversity conservation
  • Agriculture, pastoralism, and forest management in plant conservation
  • Restoration and management of Mediterranean habitats and ecosystems
  • Plant conservation priorities within protected areas and IPAs in the Mediterranean
  • Genetic tools and bioinformatics for plant conservation
  • Plant conservation in Environmental Education and environmental awareness
  • Participation of civil society in conservation projects
  • Plant conservation and cultural heritage –civilization, history, and archaeology
  • Approaches and techniques for combating alien and invasive plant species

Important dates

  • Submission period: 15 January – 30 April 2026
  • Expected online publication: from October 2026

Journal information

Mediterranean Botany is a Diamond Open Access journal published by the University Complutense of Madrid with the support of an international editorial board. All submitted manuscripts will undergo a standard peer-review process.
