More than 50 students and early-career researchers interested in Time Series gathered in Larnaca, Cyprus, from June 17 to 20, 2026, for the Recent Advances in Time Series workshop. This in-person event offered participants the opportunity to explore modern developments in Time Series analysis while learning from internationally recognized experts in the field. For four days, the workshop combined scientific presentations, academic discussion, and valuable networking opportunities in an environment designed to encourage collaboration and the exchange of ideas.
The workshop was hosted at the Radisson Beach Hotel, providing an ideal setting for intensive scientific discussions while allowing participants to enjoy the Mediterranean atmosphere.
The academic programme featured a rich selection of presentations covering several important areas of contemporary Time Series research. Participants attended talks on topics including Testing elliptical & independent component models in high dims, Mercer expansions in Sobolev spaces and appl’s, Change-point tests based on U-statistics, and Valid inference for factor models with partially missing returns. A dedicated Poster Session also provided students and researchers with the opportunity to present their latest work, exchange ideas, receive feedback, and discuss future collaborations.
The workshop also featured keynote talks by researchers who shared their latest findings with participants. Gregory Rice from the University of Waterloo presented A Functional ARCH Model. George Michailidis from the University of California delivered the keynote High-Dimensional Matrix Autoregressions: A Unified Framework for Structured Regularization. Suhasini Subba Rao from Texas A&M University presented Graphic Models for Multivariate Non-Gaussian Time Series via Conditional Specifications.
Beyond the lecture room, the workshop created many opportunities for informal scientific interaction. During breaks and throughout the programme, participants gathered around the hotel’s pool area where discussions often continued long after the presentations had ended. These relaxed conversations allowed students to seek advice from established researchers, exchange research ideas with peers, and build professional connections that will continue beyond the workshop itself.
Hosting the event in Larnaca during June added another memorable dimension to the experience. With its warm Mediterranean climate, beautiful coastline, palm-lined promenade, and relaxed atmosphere, the city offered an inviting backdrop for academic exchange. Many participants explored the city’s restaurants, cafés, and seaside attractions after the daily programme, combining scientific discovery with the unique hospitality that Cyprus is known for.
The workshop concluded with a departure conference dinner in the traditional village of Agia Anna. Participants enjoyed authentic Cypriot cuisine, local drinks, and live traditional music while reflecting on four productive days of learning, collaboration, and new friendships.
Reflecting on the success of the event, host organizer Professor Paparoditis commented, “We sincerely thank every participant for contributing to the success of this workshop. The enthusiasm and curiosity throughout these days demonstrated the strength of our community.”, while Professor Kreiss highlighted that “Workshops like this are essential for advancing research, encouraging collaboration across institutions, and inspiring the next generation of researchers in our field.”
Special thanks are extended to Technische Universität Braunschweig for its valuable support. As one of Germany’s leading technical universities, it is internationally recognized for its excellence in engineering, mathematics, computer science, and interdisciplinary scientific research.
The organizers also gratefully acknowledge the support of the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters, and Arts, the country’s highest scientific institution dedicated to promoting research, scholarship, innovation, and the advancement of science, humanities, and the arts in Cyprus.
The workshop was also supported by EasyConferences, which provided its Online Registration System and Conference Coordination Services, helping ensure the smooth organization and successful delivery of the event.
