The 45th Annual Conference of the International School Psychology Association (ISPA) took place from July 3-6, 2024, at the University of Latvia in Riga. The conference, themed “Building Effective Teams to Support All Children,” attracted more than 270 researchers from 36 countries. It provided a platform to showcase pioneering work in school psychology.

Since the early 1970s, ISPA has promoted the work of school psychologists worldwide. The organization offers training, resources, and a global community for professionals and those interested in the field.

This year’s conference continued that tradition with a robust program. The program included thematic sessions, keynotes, interaction groups, paper sessions, pre-conference, and leadership workshops.  Notable Keynote speakers included:

  • Evaldas Kazlauskas, Vilnius University, presented on “Complex Effects of Life-Stressors and Trauma on Mental Health Across the Lifespan.”
  • Véronique Le Mézec, President of the International School Psychology Association, spoke on “Multi-Professional Teamwork: An Essential Approach to the Practice of School Psychologists.”
  • Maria Spinelli, University G. D’Annunzio Chieti, discussed “The Roots of Children’s Adjustment to School: The Role of Parenting and Early Parent-Infant Relationships.”

ISPA 2024 featured a rich and diverse scientific program with 187 accepted submissions. The program included 89 oral presentations, 68 poster presentations (with 12 participants competing for the best student poster), 10 symposia, 9 roundtables, and 11 workshops. These sessions reflected the latest advancements and emerging trends in school psychology.

In addition to the academic sessions, attendees enjoyed a Traditional Latvian Bread Baking Workshop and guided walking tours of Riga, enhancing their appreciation of Latvia’s rich culture. Social events included a welcome party in the picturesque old town, a dancing event at the Venue, and a farewell party at the historic House of Blackheads, providing ample opportunities for networking and relaxation.

Photos of the conference are available on the conference’s social media platforms. Participants are encouraged to share their own photos by sending them to yi@easyconferences.eu.

The University of Latvia served as the local organizer, with Professor Baiba Martinsone chairing the committee. EasyConferences managed the abstract submission system, website and online registration system. In addition, EasyConferences supported and participated in the conference as the ISPA Central Office.

We are excited to announce that the next Annual Conference of the International School Psychology Association will take place in Coïmbra, Portugal. We look forward to seeing you there!
