Zacharias Siokouros is a Naval Architect and Marine Engineer and the Chief Executive Officer of the Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI) since its establishment in 2019. He has more than 35 years of experience across the maritime industry, research, and regulation.
His career includes senior leadership roles in shipping, cruise operations, and classification societies— from Technical Superintendent in tanker operations and Safety Manager/DPA and Technical Director in the cruise sector, to managerial positions at major classification societies. In these roles, he also served as Principal Surveyor, Maritime Safety & Security Lead Auditor, Maritime Labour Inspector, and Trainer for maritime academies. Earlier in his career, he was also Deputy Secretary General of CYMEPA.
He has long been an advocate for maritime innovation and collaboration, serving as President of the Cyprus Naval Architects and Marine Engineers Association (CyNAMEA), President of the Maritime Institute of Eastern Mediterranean (MarInEM), and a Founding Member of the Cyprus Foundation of the Sea (CyFoS). He also initiated the innovative EU-funded Lynceus Project, recipient of the Lloyd’s List Global Innovation Award (2014).
