IISA 2024

15th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications

The 15th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications (IISA 2024) successfully took place in the beautiful city of Chania, Greece, over four days. The event, held at the Grand Arsenali, provided a platform for researchers from around the world to present their work, exchange ideas, and explore new frontiers in their respective fields.

The conference featured a rich program that included 23 technical paper presentation sessions, keynote speeches, three roundtables, a tutorial presentation, and a seminar.

Out of 277 high-quality submissions from authors in over 25 countries, only 80 were accepted as full papers, highlighting the rigorous selection process and the excellence of the presented research.

Two esteemed keynote speakers were invited to share their insights:

  • Bill Kapralos, Ontario Tech University: “Immersive Virtual Learning Environments (iVLEs) for Healthcare Education: Current state-of-the-art, and Open Problems”
  • Vassilios S. Verykios, Hellenic Open University: “Shadows and Silhouettes: Protecting Privacy in the Expansive Realm of Big Data”

Additionally, Leslie Miller and Andreas Spanias (Arizona State University) conducted an engaging tutorial on “Image Fusion with Quantum Processing for Remote Sensing.”

Participants also had the unique opportunity to explore the picturesque Venetian harbor of Chania, enhancing their conference experience with the rich culture and scenic beauty of the location.

The IISA series, held annually, offers a forum for the constructive interaction and prolific exchange of ideas among scientists and practitioners from diverse research fields. These fields include computers, mathematics, physics, biology, medicine, chemistry, experimental psychology, social sciences, linguistics, and engineering. The goal is to develop methodologies and tools for solving complex problems in artificial intelligence, biology, neuroscience, security, monitoring, surveillance, healthcare, sustainability in energy sources, governance, education, commerce, automation, robotics, optimization, image, speech, and natural languages, and their integration.

The conference was organized by the University of Piraeus, Waseda University, the Technical University of Crete, EPU-National Technical University of Athens, and the Biological and Artificial Intelligence Foundation. It was technically co-sponsored by the IEEE Computer Society and the IEEE Computer Society Technical Committee on Multimedia Computing. The local organization was managed by Prof. Vangelis Marinakis of the National Technical University of Athens:

  • IEEE Steering Commitee: L N. Bourbakis (Wright State University), D. Kavraki (BAIF), G. A. Tsihrintzis and M. Virvou (University of Piraeus)
  • General Chairs: H. Washizaki (Waseda University), M. Zervakis (Technical University of Crete), M. Virvou (University of Piraeus)
