From August 27 to 30, 2024, the International Conference on AI-Empowered Software Engineering (AIeSE2024) was held at the University of Piraeus in Greece. The conference gathered scholars, academics, and students to discuss the intersection of AI and software engineering, marking the 15th edition of the AIeSE series.
Over 20 key topics of interest were examined during the International Conference in AI-empowered software engineering. Among the prominent subjects discussed was the development of user models, which enhance the personalization of software systems. Additionally, participants discussed the role of ontologies and patterns in UML modeling, which is crucial for improving software design efficiency. Another important area of focus was the automation of software design and synthesis, highlighting the potential for AI to streamline complex development processes and reduce manual effort.
Hosted by the University of Piraeus, known for its School in Information and Communication Technologies, the event was supported by Springer, a leader in academic publishing. This partnership highlighted the importance of the conference in advancing cutting-edge research. In fact, accepted papers will be published by Springer as book chapters in its “LEARNING AND ANALYTICS IN INTELLIGENT SYSTEMS” series.
According to Professor George A. Tsihrintzis (University of Piraeus), who was General Co-Chair with Yoshinori Tanabe (Tsurumi University), “The AIeSE series has consistently brought together researchers and practitioners to exchange ideas on AI-empowered software engineering”.
This year, there was an impressive lineup of keynote speakers, including:
- Prof. Hironori Washizaki (Waseda University) – Machine Learning Software Engineering based on Multi-view Modeling with Patterns and MLOps
- Prof. Stephan Krusche (Technical University of Munich) – Artemis: Interactive Learning with Generative AI
- Prof. Vassilios Verykios (Hellenic Open University) – Custodians of Privacy: Protecting Data and Information in the Digital Age
- Prof. Maria Virvou (University of Piraeus) – Balancing Autonomy and Ethics in AI-Εmpowered Software Engineering by Addressing User-Centered Requirements Tension
- Prof. Peter P. Groumpos (University of Patras) – Artificial Intelligence or Cybernetics? Why Not Cybernetic Artificial Intelligence (CAI)
- Prof. Miltos Alamaniotis (University of Texas at San Antonio) – Preventing a Nuclear September 11th: Solutions, Challenges, and Concerns in Utilizing AI-empowered Analysis Software in Sensors
The conference program included 19 research papers, four paper sessions, three tutorials, and a roundtable discussion on “Artificial Intelligence-empowered Autonomous Software – Moral Dilemmas, Ethics and Regulations, Challenges and Requirements”. Explore the conference papers at this link.
In addition to the academic part, participants had the opportunity to enjoy the Greek Hospitality, participating in social activities such as a welcome reception, a guided tour, and a gala dinner. With its picturesque harbor and bustling marina, Piraeus offered stunning views and a lively atmosphere.
EasyConferences supported the conference by designing and maintaining the website, online registration, and abstract submission systems, ensuring a smooth experience for all attendees.
