Applied Econometrics
The Annual Conference of the International Association for Applied Econometrics (IAAE) 2024 was successfully held in the vibrant city of Thessaloniki, hosted at the prestigious Grand Hotel Palace. Known for its luxurious amenities and outstanding conference facilities, the Grand Hotel Palace provided an exceptional venue for the event, which attracted over 350 researchers from 31 countries to showcase their groundbreaking work.
The conference was meticulously organized by the Department of Economics of the University of Macedonia. Prof. Thelogos Pantelidis served as the chair of the organizing committee. Additionally, the program was carefully curated by Prof. Yoosoon Chan of Indiana University and Prof. Frank Kelibergen. Their efforts ensured a diverse and enriching experience for all attendees.
The event commenced with a warm welcome message from Prof. Marcelle Chauvet, Director of the International Association for Applied Economics. This set a positive tone for the conference. Moreover, the program featured one plenary session and more than 115 parallel sessions across ten rooms. These sessions covered a wide range of topics and recent advancements in applied econometrics.
Renowned scholars delivered keynote lectures, including:
- IAAE Lecture: Guido Imbens, Professor of Economics at Stanford Graduate School of Business, on “Recent Advances in Causal Panel Data Models”.
- IAAE Lecture: Anna Mikusheva, Professor of Economics at MIT, on “GMM is Inadmissible Under Weak Identification”.
- Keynote Speaker: Isaiah Andrews, Professor of Economics at MIT, on “Bootstrap Diagnostics for Irregular Estimators”.
- JAE Lecture: Bruce Hansen, the Phipps Distinguished Chair of Economics at the University of Wisconsin, on “Standard Errors for Difference-in-Difference Regression”.
In addition to the academic sessions, attendees had numerous opportunities to socialize and network. The Welcome Reception in the hotel’s garden and the conference dinner at the luxurious Imperial Port were highlights, featuring Mediterranean cuisine, dancing, and relaxation by the swimming pool.
A guided tour of Thessaloniki offered attendees a chance to explore the city’s rich history, including a walking tour of the White Tower, the Statue of Alexander the Great, and a bus tour to the city’s most important monuments.
