The 12th IEEE International Conference on Cloud Engineering (IC2E 2024) took place from September 24-27, 2024, in the beautiful coastal city of Paphos, Cyprus. Hosted at the Aliathon Resort, the venue provided an ideal setting for the event, with well-equipped conference rooms, while the resort’s warm Cypriot hospitality ensured all participants felt welcome.

IC2E is a prestigious annual conference series focusing on the latest innovations in cloud computing and offers a comprehensive forum where participants can share their work on engineering principles, enabling technologies, and practical experiences across all levels of the cloud stack.

The 2024 edition of the conference featured an impressive range of topics, including cloud management and engineering, cloud applications like IoT and machine learning, cloud systems such as storage and serverless computing, and critical issues like cloud security and privacy.

A total of 40 academics, researchers, and students participated in IC2E 2024, exchanging ideas and exploring the future of cloud computing. Computer Science Department at the University of Cyprus organized the conference.

General Chairs George Pallis (University of Cyprus) and Weisong Shi (University of Delaware) ensured the conference ran smoothly and fostered an engaging atmosphere for all attendees.

The conference began with a tutorial by Nabil Abdennadher (University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Western Switzerland), who led a session on “Towards a Decentralized Federated Learning-Based Edge-to-Edge Continuum Computing Framework”. His presentation set the tone for the rest of the conference, which featured groundbreaking insights from two keynote speakers. Omer Rana (Cardiff University) discussed partitioning machine learning algorithms across the edge-cloud continuum, Demetris Zeinalipour (University of Cyprus) presented on sustainable computing and renewable self-consumption.

The best paper award was presented to Mert Toslali, Syed Mohammad Qasim, Srinivasan Parthasarathy, Fabio Oliveira, Hai Huang, Stringhini Gianluca, Zaoxing Liu, and Ayse Kivilcim Coskun for their paper titled “An Online, Probabilistic Distributed Tracing System”, which was recognized for its innovative approach to cloud-based systems.

In addition, social events allowed attendees to experience the local culture and hospitality firsthand. A welcome cocktail and poster session at the venue allowed participants to network while enjoying the mild Mediterranean climate. Attendees also had the chance to explore Geroskipou, famous for its historical Agia Paraskevi Church and traditional Cypriot delight, loukoumi. The group visited the iconic Paphos Castle and took a guided driving tour of the Old Town of Paphos. The conference dinner, held at the charming Casa Mespilea, offered a warm setting where participants tasted the local Cypriot cuisine in a traditional atmosphere.

The event was supported by the IEEE Computer Society, which is dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment for all participants. The society emphasizes equity, diversity, and inclusion in all its activities, ensuring that its events are open to everyone, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, or background.

EasyConferences provided valuable support to IC2E 2024, handling the online registration system, website maintenance, and secretariat services, ensuring a seamless experience for all attendees.

IC2E 2024 not only advanced discussions on cloud engineering but also provided a memorable experience in one of the most beautiful locations in the Mediterranean. Participants left with fresh insights, new connections, and fond memories of their time in Paphos.
