
Dr. Daniel Hayes

Daniel Hayes, Ph. D., is a physical oceanographer specialising on small and meso-scale physical exchange processes using autonomous underwater vehicles, models, and statistical techniques. He has participated in several national projects on ocean observations and modelling and was the coordinator of a national infrastructure project to set up and operate an ocean glider facility to study the seas of Cyprus using underwater gliders. He has been working on the development of the real time observing and forecasting system for the Cyprus region, including collection and analysis of data and development of numerical circulation models and the assimilation of in situ glider data. He has led work packages in a number of EU and Cyprus national research projects, and he is the UNESCO-IOC IODE National Coordinator for Oceanographic Data Management for Cyprus, the Cyprus National Focal Point for the Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS), the Cyprus National Focal Point for the European Ocean Observing System (EOOS) Operations Committee, and a (founding) member of the GOOS-endorsed OceanGlider International Steering Team. In the previous 12 years, he has also founded and managed two small enterprises leading research and development related to advanced marine technology, before leaving those to join CMMI in 2024.
