Karina von Schuckmann (Dr., HDR) is Senior Advisor, Ocean Science for Policy, at the Scientific Direction of Mercator Ocean International in France. Passionate about the ocean, she is interested in understanding the role of the ocean – and its interactions – in the Earth’s climate system, and the transfer of ocean knowledge at the science and policy interface. She is, amongst others, the director of the Copernicus Ocean State Report and was the lead author of the IPCC SROCC and AR6 reports, she is a lead author for the upcoming IPCC AR7, and she is member of the Group of Experts of the 4th cycle of the UN World Ocean Assessment. She is a Lead Author for the WMO State of the Climate, the IOC-UNESCO Ocean Report and the 3rd cycle of the World Ocean Assessment. She is a member of several international expert groups on climate science, and scientific advisory boards. She is a member of the European Academy of Sciences and was awarded the French Academy of Sciences Climate Prize in 2023, and the Excellence Professorship of the Prof. Dr Werner Petersen Foundation in 2025.
