Information for Presenters

  • Please make sure you are available for your session 5-10 minutes before it is scheduled to start.
  • Presenters are asked to bring their presentation on a USB. You will need to transfer your file to the  computer prior to the start of the session. We are unable to accept presentations on personal laptops given the technical complication of the equipment.
  • Please contact us at the registration desk in case you require special arrangements (e.g. use of personal computer with specific software).

SSSP Conference Presentation, Blitz Talk, and Poster Guidelines

Oral Talks (including within symposia)

  • Talks should last no more than 10-12 minutes. It is essential that you stay to time, both out of respect to your fellow presenters (i.e., so you are not encroaching into their allotted time) and to ensure that the conference program runs to time.

  • There will be 3-5 minutes of questions after each talk (i.e., each presenter is allocated 15 minutes inclusive of presentation and question time).
  • We strongly urge that you consult with the other presenters in your group (i.e., within your symposium or oral talks) to avoid repeating the same background information, especially when talks are focused on similar questions (i.e., you might consider having the first person to present provide a brief overview of the topic at hand to avoid repetition across the symposium/set of talks).
  • In addition, please keep in mind that the SSSP audience is a knowledgeable and, in many cases, expert audience when it comes to general background pertaining to the definitions, significance, and importance of studying psychopathy/CU traits. We urge that you keep such content to a minimum within presentations and prioritize getting to the unanswered question, knowledge gap, or hypothesis that your study was designed to test.
  • For oral talks: the first named presenter in each group will be responsible for timing – please hold up the 5- and 1-minute cards to signal to other presenters when they need to finish (cards will be provided by the local host)
  • For symposiums: either the moderator or discussant from within each group is responsible for timing – please hold up the 5- and 1-minute cards to signal to other presenters when they need to finish (cards will be provided by the local host).

Blitz Talks

  • Blitz Talks should last no more than 3 minutes. It is essential that you stay to time, both out of respect to your fellow presenters (i.e., so you are not encroaching into their allotted time) and to ensure that the conference program runs to time.
  • PowerPoint presentations should be composed of no more than 3 slides, equating to three “clicks” to move slides forward (i.e., extensive animations within slides to circumnavigate the 3-slide rule is discouraged)
  • As with oral talks, please keep in mind that the SSSP audience is knowledgeable when it comes to general background pertaining to the definitions, significance, and importance of studying psychopathy/CU traits. Such content is not required for Blitz Talks. Consider structuring your 3 slides as follows:
    • Slide 1: Unanswered question, knowledge gap, or hypothesis that your study addressed
    • Slide 2: Methods
    • Slide 3: Results and Takeaway

Posters

  • The poster size requirement is approximately 33″ x 47″ (84cm x 119cm)
  • Consider using the following resources creating posters that are simple and effective:
  • Keep in mind that the goal of your poster is to present the information about your study in an organized and easy-to-follow format. Keep the text content of the text as simple as possible (i.e., brief bullet points, not full sentences) and the font as large as possible (i.e., important information should be readable from about 10 feet away).
  • Prioritize figures, different colors, and graphics to keep your poster attractive and functional.
  • Prepare an “elevator pitch” of 30-40 seconds to share with colleagues who come to look at your poster so that you can effectively walk them through the unanswered question, knowledge gap, or hypothesis that your study was designed to test, how you did it (i.e., sample/methods), and what you found.
IMPORTANT NOTES
  • Each Poster has been allocated a number in the session. This number corresponds to the number that will be indicated on the poster panels available and to which you will place your poster.
  • Due to the large number of posters and in order to maximize the exposure of the posters, presenters are asked to stand next to their poster at the below times:

Poster numbers 1 up to 35: 18:30 – 19:30

Poster numbers 36 up to 69: 19:30 – 20:30

List of posters (with numbers) is available here.

  • Set up process:
    – On the panels you will find pins that will help you put up your poster
    – Please leave the pins on the panel after you put down your poster.
    – We will also be able to provide alternative material (double face tape) in case it is required.
    – In case of any issue please contact the EasyConferences staff members at the registration desk.
  • Set up times: Room will be available from 13:00 on the 16th of May.
