James Froud is a London-based partner with Bird & Bird, specialising in employment and partnership law within the firm’s International HR Services Group.

James’ practice is unusually diverse; he advises on all aspects of contentious and non-contentious employment law at all stages in the employment cycle, supporting a broad range of clients including multi-national corporations, public sector bodies and also individuals. Much of his work is international and tends to originate from technology-rich sectors.

James has particular experience and interest in managing large restructuring projects across multiple territories and conducting high value litigation involving trade secrets issues, including actions to prevent misuse of confidential information and restrictive covenant disputes.

James has also worked in-house, undertaking an 18-month secondment with Yahoo! acting as sole UK employment counsel, a role which involved amongst other things the co-ordination of many international projects and necessitating engagement with local counsel throughout Europe.

James has participated in panel discussions and lectured extensively on a variety of HR law subjects, including social media and the impact of technology in the workplace. He has also written for and been quoted in the UK national press and industry publications; recently featuring in the Guardian as the author of an article: “How employers can embrace social media and protect their business“.
