Christiaan Oberman specialises in both employment law and public service law.

He advises both Dutch and international companies, including numerous listed companies, government agencies and semi-public institutions, in addition to non-profit organisations. He also assists management boards and HR departments in connection with reorganisations. Christiaan advises at a strategic, tactical and operational level, and he also assists directors appointed pursuant to companies’ articles of association and managing directors.

Christiaan has been a lawyer since 1989 and has been a partner at Palthe Oberman since it was founded. He studied at the University of Amsterdam and at the University of Maryland in the United States. In 2002 he completed the Dutch Postgraduate Employment Law Course Programme (Post Academische Leergang Arbeidsrecht, PALA).

He is a member of the European Employment Lawyers’ Association (EELA), the American Bar Association (ABA), the International Bar Association (IBA) and the Dutch Employment Lawyers’ Association (Vereniging van Arbeidsrecht Advocaten Nederland, VAAN). Christiaan is also a member of the Employment Lawyers’ Association for Amsterdam and Environs (Vereniging van Arbeidsrecht Advocaten Amsterdam e.o.).

In addition, Christiaan is a member and editor of the Dutch Bar Journal (Advocatenblad), for which he writes the annual Employment Law Chronicle, reporting on the most important legal decisions in the field of employment law. Christiaan teaches employment law to trainee lawyers as part of their professional education (VSO) and gives lectures and courses in that field. He regularly publishes on subjects related to employment law. For Kluwer he edits and updates the Employment Law Loose-leaf Series in the field of dissolution proceedings.

Christiaan is ranked in Chambers Europe. Chambers Europe has noted Christiaan’s clients praise him for his ability to build relationships with key internal stakeholders. Interviewees say: “He is always available and very quick. It almost feels like he is in-house counsel, that is how well he knows us.” Christiaan is also recommended by Legal 500.

Christiaan is also active as a member of the board of various social organisations. In addition, Christiaan has been involved with the work performed by War Child since it was founded.
